The ATM Cave in Belize
The Belize Actun Tunichil Muknal (ATM) Cave is a wet cave, where you swim into the entrance and then trek through ankle to chest-high water before climbing to a dry chamber that leads to the cathedral or main hall. This towering chamber is 350 meters in length and 50 meters wide and is filled with artifacts and the skeletal remains of 14 bodies, about half of them children. All of the skeletal remains are male except one completely intact female skeleton covered in sparkling mineral deposits, the Crystal Maiden. Other artifacts include large pots and jars, flute-like instruments, and ground stones used for grinding corn and grains, suggesting agricultural rituals.
ATM Cave is considered the best Belize cave to explore and is declared the world's most sacred cave by National Geographic. It is an extraordinary and rare opportunity to see ancient Maya ceremonial sites and altars as they were thousands of years ago, virtually untouched.

Once inside the park, let your imagination run free as you explore highlights among more than 3,000 structures that archaeologists have excavated so far. Learn about the daily life and religious practices of the ancient Maya while wandering through the maze of the Central Acropolis, and envision the excitement of an elite sporting match in the ball courts. Tikal boasts an array of magnificent ceremonial temples. Climb the steep staircase of the 144-foot (44-meter) Temple of the Grand Jaguar, built to honor a Mayan king. A set of twin pyramids with altars will greet you at complexes Q and R. Marvel at the Temple of the Masks, which was once adorned with intricate ceremonial mask carvings. Perhaps most impressive is the oft-photographed Temple IV, also known as the Double Head Serpent. The tallest structure in Tikal at 212 feet (64 meters), this pyramid rises majestically above the jungle canopy.

The drive to the airport is about 2.5 hours from Placencia, with a quick stop in Hopkins (if needed), and an optional bathroom break and convenience store thereafter. The drive traverses the newly constructed Coastal Highway, and no longer goes through Belmopan City.
For guests coming from Placencia or Hopkins, individual pick-up from your hotel along the Placencia peninsula or in Hopkins village is included.

As soon as you exit the Customs inspection in the arrival lounge, you will walk through the exit door. Look for our driver with a "Belize Ground Shuttle" sign. The shuttle van will be parked in the lot directly across from the door that you exit. If the van is not there yet, you should wait on one of the benches outside. If you go back into the building, be sure to come back out before the scheduled departure time. The driver will check your reservation and guide you to the van with your luggage.
